About Our community

The Tigrian Community Association in Victoria (TCAV) is an incorporated association representing Tigrian and Tigrian Australians residing in the state of Victoria. It is the peak representative body for all Tigrians in Victoria which was formed in 1993 and incorporated in 2002.

In the Early years of Tigrian immigration, TCAV’s focus was to support Tigrian Australians resettle and integrate successfully. The organization has facilitated and organized cultural events, conducted Tigrian language programs and other activities including employment support programs while promoting ongoing strong and cohesive social support networks.

Our vision

is to see a unified and economically strong Tigrian community in Victoria that preserved its rich cultural heritage and history and owns a community centre from where it provides inclusive, innovative and sustainable programs and services to its members especially the youth.

Our mission

is to work in partnership with community sections, private and business companies, and Federal, State and Local governments to strive for excellence in meeting the needs of our community through the provision of supportive, recreational, cultural, sporting and welfare programs for the advancement of social, economic, and emotional wellbeing of our community members.

Objectives

To provide welfare and relief assistance to individuals and families in need in the Tigrian community.
Provide settlement and integration information and support to newly arrived members of the community.
To encourage and foster goodwill, cooperation and understanding with similar Tigrian organizations and the wider communities in Australia.
To facilitate exchange of entrepreneurial skills and experiences to promote business and investment skills among our community members.
To provide language and culture education to children and youth members of the community to help them learn and preserve their language, history and cultural values.
To provide sporting and recreational activities to youth members to promote their physical and mental wellbeing.
To promote the social and economic wellbeing of the most vulnerable members of the community, namely isolated elderly and women.
To provide an opportunity for social interaction and cultural awareness by organizing festivals, cultural shows and adult education activities.
Mobilize resources and build a community centre, where inclusive, innovative and sustainable programs and services are provided to members

The objectives will be turned into plans, projects and activities.

For example – the objective of mobilizing resources and build a community centre will have the

following projects and activities

Increasing membership base – plan to register 500 members and raise AUD $60,000 amount of money per year,
Purchase land or an old house with big land and develop construction plan for community centre that involves a hall, recreation centre, school etc to meet community needs.
Look for matching fund and apply for infrastructure grant from available grants.
Build the planned community centre and arrange for its management, etc
